GTA 6 Online: Welcome to the Future of Multiplayer and RP

Published: May 2026 | Category: Gaming News

GTA Online has been a massive cash cow for Rockstar Games for over a decade. Naturally, players are wondering what GTA 6 Online will look like. Will our accounts transfer over? Will there be dedicated Roleplay (RP) servers? Here is everything we know about the next generation of online mayhem in Leonida.

A Clean Slate: GTA Online 2.0

According to insider reports, GTA 6 will feature a completely separate online component, tentatively dubbed "GTA Online 2.0". Due to the massive engine upgrades and changes in game mechanics (like the new inventory system), your current GTA V Online character and wealth will not transfer over. Everyone will start fresh in Vice City.

Official Roleplay (RP) Integration

In 2023, Rockstar Games officially acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM—the platform that made GTA RP a global phenomenon on Twitch. This acquisition strongly indicates that GTA 6 will have native, built-in support for Roleplay servers. Players will likely be able to host their own servers with custom rules directly from the main menu.

Persistent World Events

Unlike the instanced lobbies of GTA V, the new online world is rumored to be highly persistent. This means dynamic events, such as hurricanes hitting the coast of Leonida or rocket launches from the game's equivalent of Cape Canaveral, will happen in real-time and affect all players on the server simultaneously.
